Stacking The Shelves (2)

This week I didn't add a lot of books to my shelves because I'm still finishing up my current TBR pile of books.  Check out the books that I borrowed, purchased and received as ARCs below.

Borrowed

I've been a fan of Disney and their fairytales since I was a toddler.  The Kingdom Keepers series has been on my TBR list for a while, but I never got around to picking any of the books.  Then I was at the library on the hunt for some more Sarah J. Maas and books and saw this one.   It was sign.  So I picked it up and I can't read it.

So Sarah J Maas books are super popular at our local library branches.  While I wait on my copy of A Court of Mist and Fury to arrive, I wanted to start the Throne of Glass series.  As luck would have it all of the Throne of Glass main books were checked out, but I was able to locate a copy of The Assassin's Blade which will give me a little background on the action in the main books.

Just from reading and watching reviews of the Throne of Glass series, Celena sounds like a fierce and kickass heroine.  I'm digging into this book over the 4th of July holiday!

I'm starting A Sinful Calling next week since I got it as an ARC and need to get my review up ASP, but wanted to catch up on one of the books from the Rev Curtis Black series that I missed.  I'll probably knock this out in a day and then move straight into A Sinful Calling.

Why is it so hard to find good thrillers/crime mysteries written by Black authors?  Ever since I decided to branch outside of reading James Patterson, I've been on the hunt for more mystery writers of colors.  I'm sure they're out there and I was thrilled when I stumbled across this read at my library.  I read the first two chapters and was hooked!  Come thru Pamela Thomas-Graham.  She's only written three books and I can't wait to pick up her two works.

ARCs

I've never read anything by Nicole Blades but when I read the blurb about this book on Netgalley I had to have it.  There's mystery, scandal and the unraveling of secrets.  I really hope this book is as good as the blurb makes it seem.

This is the second vampire book I've gotten this month.  I won a copy of this from LibraryThing.

This cozy mystery was described as having a Sophia Kinsella meets Janet Evanovich feel.  I just recently started getting more into cozy mysteries and hope that this one doesn't disappoint.  Sophia Kinsella and Janet Evanovich are pretty big names to compare yourself to in the writing world!

Purchased

Someone in one of my Facebook book groups recommended this book and because I trust their recommendations I decided to take a chance and purchase this book.  I'm all about YA Fantasy right now.  Thank you Sarah Maas.  While I'm not expecting this book to be like ACOTAR, I do hope the writing and storyline will suck me in.

What book(s) did you have add to your shelves this week?

Sunday Post1

Summer Break is here and school is out.  I'd planned to get at least one of my novels finally finished by next month, but you know what they say about plans.  I greatly underestimated the ability of my children to entertain themselves.  It's been so challenging to find quiet moments to get all of the scenes and dialogue out of my head.  Sure I could work at night, but I'll be honest admit that the last time I tried writing late at night I was exhausted and woke up to some gibberish the next morning.

I tried to make some sense of what I'd written, but could salvage two sentences.  I need to write when I am well rested and wide awake.  With that said my plan for this week is put the kids to bed early.  I know Summer Break is for staying up late because there's no school to worry about the next day, but I NEED to write.

Also, last week I think I read the best book of my 2016 yet.  Why didn't anybody tell me about Sarah J. Maas?  I stopped reading YA after the end of the Twilight series, but after reading ACOTAR, I'm back on the YA bandwagon.  Like seriously, I'm trying to take myself out of rereading it because I have a ton of ARCs that I need to get read and reviewed for their respective publishers.

Aside from struggling with writing time and fangirling over Sarah J. Maas, I haven't been up to much.

On The Blog Last Week

I'm slowly but surely getting the hang of writing on this blog again.   With that said last week was slow in the writing department.

On The Blog This Week

My goal this week is get up a few book reviews, a post about whether or not I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo in July and of course my Week 2 Stacking the Shelves post.

Around The Internet

This week there some pretty good posts and videos around the internet.  Here's a few of my faves:

Currently Reading

I just want to say that I loved Christina Lauren's Beautiful series and decided to go back and read the novellas, but for some reason it's taking me forever to finish the first one.  I'm not a fan of title.  I do try to say away from books with profanity on the covers.  However, Bennett and Chloe started my love affair with Christina Lauren.  So, I'm going to just push through.

ARCs of the Week

Since I'm trying to finish up the ARCs I have on my Kindle, I haven't requested any new ones from Netgalley, but I did get the books below in the mailbox.

I'm super excited to read Nely's book because I was introduced to her through Coca-Cola (they sponsor my parenting lifestyle blog).  I've never heard of Ace Atkins, but I do love a good thriller read.  I read the blurb for this book and knew I had to give it a read.  I saw a giveaway for it on Goodreads, entered and won!

What's new in your world?  Any good book recommendations?  Let me know in the comments!

Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly link up created by Tynga's Reviews.  Each week you share the books you are adding to your shelves.  You can include books you buy in a physical or online store, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books (ARCs), gifted books and ebooks.

I'm super excited to be participating in Stacking The Shelves because who doesn't love talking book?  I do!  I could (and have) talk books 24/7.  They're such magical creations.  Anyways, I have stacks and stacks of books that I've added to my shelves this week.  Some are temporary borrows from my library while others are ARCs that I received from publishers in the mail or via Netgalley.

Borrowed

I stumbled across the Beautiful series by authors Christina Lauren a few years and it was love at first read.  There couples are so passionate, raw and relatable.  I picked up the novellas that come in-between the main books from the library since they finally got a few in.  I've started the first and it's nice to see where Bennett and Chloe pick up from where they left off in Beautiful Bastard.

You can't watch a Booktube channel or read a book blog without seeing a review of A Court of Thorns and Roses aka ACOTAR.   So, of course I had to add this to my temporary bookshelf.  Until today I had heard and seen only raving reviews about this book.  Now that I've seen a handful of negative blog reviews I'm feeling a little anxious about reading this.  It's been a long time since I've been really disappointed by a book, but then again I've been playing it safe and reading my fave authors.  This is my first Sarah J. Maas book. Wish me luck!

While everyone's talking about the new Disney Descendants novel, I'm getting started on the Disney Kingdom Keepers series.  I tried to get into the first Descendants novel, but couldn't.  So let's hope that Kingdom Keepers is better.  I do love Disney and want to give their books a try.

Another YA series that has been all over book blogs and Booktube is the Red Queen series.  So of course I had pick up the prequel and the first book in this series.  They must be good because these books look like they have been well "loved."  I read a few paragraphs of a random chapter in the middle of the Red Queen and it was intriguing enough that I think I will like these.

ARCs

I requested this ARC on Netgealley because I loved the cover and the blurb said that this book was for fans of The Nanny Diaries and Sophia Kinsella.  That's me!  Best of all this book is set in New York, one of my most favorite places in the world.  I can't to get started and see what unfolds as the main character Kate lands a job in the admissions department of a private day school or what will happen when she finds out the secrets her best friend and sister have been withholding from her.

Vampires plus Latin American mythology.  Yes please!  I haven't read a good vampire book since the Twilight series and before that it was Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice.  I'm hoping this book is really good.

Kimberla Roby's Reverend Curtis Black series is awesome.  Roby's stories prove that being saved don't make you holy and you definitely reap what you sow.  In this installment Reverend's secret son, Pastor Dillion Whitfield Black is back and he's starting his own mega-church.  It soon becomes clear that the love of ministry isn't the only thing Dillion inherited from his father. I can't wait to see if Dillion's secular ways will catch up with him.

I had a blast reading Synithia's New York Kind of Love, also from Kimani.  Also, she's a fellow Carolinian.  So I just new I had to get an ARC of her new book.  Plus, I've always wanted to go to Malibu, why not transport myself there through a book until I can get there in person!

I received a finished ARC of this book from Center Street (Hachette Book Group).  This book was previously published in Australia under Simon & Schuster.  Claiming Noah is a story of a two couples who have struggled with fertility issues.  Catriona and James Sinclair are finally pregnant thanks to in-vitro and decide to donate their spare frozen egg to Diana and Liam Simmons.   Diana struggles to get her family to accept her child as a part of the family even though he's not biologically hers and Catriona struggles to connect with the joys of motherhood (Baby Blues).

Just as Catriona is finally connecting one of the babies gets kidnapped.  Worlds are then turned upside down. I feel like Catriona and James are going to try to get Diana and Liam to give up their baby since Catriona doesn't want to go through another round of fertility treatments.  I guess I will have to read and see if my prediction is right.

I'm looking to read all of these and will be sharing reviews each book here on the blog as I finish them.

What's the last book you added to your bookshelves?
