I feel like I'm on a readathon roll.  Honestly, reading is so much fun when you're doing it as a group or at least have people to chat about your reads with as you read them.  Anyways, I surfing the web and stumbled across the Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon.  Co-hosted by Ely of Tea And Titles (Earl Grey Books on BookTube) and Val of The Innocent Smiley, #MakeMeRead is a readathon in which you select books you really want to read, create a poll and post it to your blog, YouTube channel or social media accounts for other people to vote on which books you should read.
This readathon runs from August 6th to August 13th.  The goal is to read as many of the books on your list in order of the book with the most votes to the least votes.  Sounds like fun, right?!  It's definitely an interesting way to kind of get a glimpse at which books readers are fans of at the moment.

My Book Picks

RosesBeauty and the Beast.  Who could ever get enough of Beauty and the Beast retellings?!  Not me!  I've never read anything by Rose Mannering, but I hope this book gets the most votes because I'm all about Beauty and her Beast and reading about how the power love can save even the most selfish, rude and just coldhearted of us all.

Difficult Women |  Yes, I know I'm so behind on reading this.  I feel like every women has read this book since it's come out with the exception of me.  I've heard nothing but ridiculously good things about Gay's writing and can't wait to get into this.

Textrovert |  So two teenagers accidently mix up their funs for the summer and end up falling in love with each other as they forward each other their text messages.  This storyline just sounds so cute!  Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic and love situations like these where fate kind of steps in to bring two lovers together.

Tomorrow's PromiseSecret government relationship anyone?  Yes, please!  In the mist of helping families of MIA soldiers, Keely starts to fall for a congressman who's also serving on her committee.  Thanks to Harlequin and Christina Lauren, I'm all for forbidden office romances these days.

Above And Beyond |  The synopsis of this book totally reminds me of that Zac Efron movie, The Lucky Ones.  I can't wait to see if Kyla and Trevor's love will survive once the truth comes out about how and why Trevor tracked her down.

Leave Me |  This is another book that I feel like am late to party reading.  I think every mom can or will be able to relate with Maribeth at some point.  As a mom of two, there have definitely been days when I've wanted to runaway from my family.  Not forever, but a good 24 hours wouldn't hurt.  I'm looking forward to seeing how her family reacts and what her time away teaches her.

The Last HackIt's been a while since I've read really good mystery.  So not only is Sam tasked with the responsibility of raising her younger sister after mom gets incarnated and might have to give up her college dreams, but then she ends up getting blackmailed as well.  I definitely want to find out who is blackmailing her and why.

The Girl Who Fell From The SkyTragedy strikes and Rachel, who is half Danish, half Black, is forced to pack up her life move down South to live with the Black side (her father's side) of the family.  Having brown skin with blue eyes kind leads to an identity crisis for Rachel as she also works to cope with her parents' deaths.  This book sounds like it has the potential to really pull at the heartstrings and delve into some serious issues that a lot mixed race kids face.

Vote

There you have it.  These are my eight picks that I'd love to read for the Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon this year.  Now, comes the fun part where you get vote on which order I will be reading these.  I'll be leaving this poll open until August 1st.  Can't wait to see which book wins the number one spot!

What book should I read?

Roses by Rose Mannering
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
Textrovert by Lindsey Summers
Tomorrow's Promise by Sandra Brown
Above And Beyond by Sandra Brown
Leave Me by Gayle Forman
The Last Hack by Christopher Brookmyre
The Girl Who Fell From The Sky ny Heidi W. Durrow

  2. I love participating in this readathon. I did last year and was super excited when I saw it again this year.

I voted for textrovert because it sounds like something I think I would love. I would have picked a book I read and loved but I actually haven't heard of any of these books before. Enjoy!!!

  3. I like the idea of Textrovert, but I ended up voting for The Girl Who Fell From the Sky, because it sounds like an interesting dialogue on mixed race children and their lives in the south. You have such a cool collection of books here, though. Like, I can probably see myself voting for a lot of these books.
